What
OpenTofu is an open-source fork of Terraform for declaring infrastructure as code. It's the IaC engine underneath Terragrunt that provisions our infrastructure.
Why this ring
We adopted it in preference to Terraform after Terraform's licence change, in line with preferring open-source tooling where a capable alternative exists. It's a drop-in replacement, so the move carried little risk.
What does this mean
Use OpenTofu (via Terragrunt) for infrastructure as code. New IaC should not be written against Terraform.
